dc.descriptionOne of the most important problems of the sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) in Argentine is the pre-harvest sprouting (PHS).A molecular linkage map was developed after the cosegregation analysis of 112 markers (RFLPs, RAPDs and AFLPs). The F2 mapping population of 93 individuals was derived from a cross between IS 9530 (resistance to PHS) and B2 Redland (susceptible to PHS). Fourteen linkage groups were obtained spanning 950 cM. By means of interval mapping analysis two significant QTLs were detected with LOD scores of 8.77 and 4.39 respectively, suggesting they act as major genes. These two QTLs explained individually about 53% of phenotypic variance (R2) each, but together in a two-QTLs model they explained 83% of phenotypic variance. Differences between R2 from the one-QTL model and two-QTL model were explained by epistatic effects. These results were corroborated by one-way ANOVA in which the 2 flanking markers of the most likely positions of each QTL displayed high significant values in the F-test. Molecular markers found to be closely linked to QTLS, may be used for plant breeding purposes.-
