| dc.description | Salviano fue un letrado galo-romano que, después de su conversión a la fe católica, vivió una vida como presbítero en Marsella. Fue testigo de las invasiones bárbaras del siglo V e hizo frente a las críticas de sus contemporáneos a través de la redacción de una obra apologética titulada De Gubernatione Dei. En ella plasma su pensamiento histórico-teológico y da cuenta del papel rector de la Providencia en la historia humana. Por medio de sus letras él realiza una fuerte crítica a los cristianos latinos y a sus prácticas reñidas con la moral. A través de la idealización retórica de los invasores explica cómo el castigo divino a los romanos tiene un sentido purificador. Utilizando un lenguaje profético, él plantea la práctica ascética y el testimonio de vida virtuosa como la mejor respuesta frente al juicio inminente y a las grandes incertidumbres de la historia humana. | - |
| dc.description | Salvianus was an educated Gallo-Roman who, after his conversion to the Catholic faith, lived a life as a priest in Marseilles. He witnessed the barbarian invasions of the fifth-century and faced criticism from his contemporaries by writing an apologetic work entitled De Gubernatione Dei. This work captures his historical-theological thought and expresses the leading role of Providence in human history. Through his lyrics he makes a strong critique of the Latin Christians and their conflict with the moral practices. Through a rhetoric idealization of the invaders, he explains how the divine punishment to the Romans has a purifying sense. Using a prophetic language he proposes the ascetic practice and the testimony of a virtuous life as the best response to the impending judgment and the great uncertainties of human history. | - |
