| dc.description | En este trabajo se considera la obra del P. Guillermo Furlong S.J. desde la perspectiva de la historia de la ciencia en Argentina. El trabajo comienza destacando la influencia de los años de formación en Estados Unidos sobre el tipo de trabajo histórico-erudito que hacía Furlong. Se destaca el lugar de los temas de historia de la ciencia dentro de su producción general, se comparan sus puntos de vistas con los de la historiografía de la ciencia vigente en las décadas de 1940 y 1950 (encarnada en el matemático José Babini) y se pone de relieve su papel de fundador de un campo de estudios, como es el de la historia de la ciencia colonial. | - |
| dc.description | This paper considers the work of Father Guilermo Furlong S.J. from the point of view of history of science in Argentina. We begin focusing on the years Furlong spent in the USA as a Jesuit student and speculate upon the influence that this education could have had on Furlong’s style of scholarship. Afterwards, we analyze the place of history of science within Furlong’s overall intellectual production and compare his points of view with those of historiography of science in Argentina in the 1940s and 1950s embodied in the mathematician José Babini. The paper underlines Furlong’s role as the founder of the field of studies of colonial science in the Río de la Plata. | - |
