| dc.description | El pectínido bisado “Chlamys” actinodes (SOWERBY, 1846) es una especie ampliamente distribuida en las sedimentitas de la Formación Puerto Madryn (Mioceno tardío) aflorantes en el noreste de la región patagónica (Península Valdés, Provincia de Chubut). La ornamentación exterior de esta especie es altamente variable, y la aplicación del método de morfometría geométrica en dos dimensiones, permitió reconocer dos morfotipos que reflejan el desarrollo diferencial de la escultura de las conchillas en respuesta a la variación de la energía hidráulica en ambientes litorales. Por un lado, se definió un morfotipo de pliegues altos, que está representado por especímenes con conchillas con ornamentación gruesa, y que corresponde a formas que habitaron sustratos firmes, arenosos o de grava, en ambientes del shoreface inferior de la Fase Transgresiva de la secuencia. Por otro lado, se reconoció un morfotipo de pliegues bajos, con conchillas delicadamente ornamentadas, asociado a sustratos arenosos de ambientes del offshore superior y medio, registrados en el highstand y ubicados inmediatamente por encima de la superficie de máxima inundación. En estas facies, las condiciones de energía hidráulica se restringían a débiles corrientes tidales, mucho más suaves que las imperantes en los ambientes habitados por los especímenes gruesamente ornamentados. | - |
| dc.description | The byssate pectinid “Chlamys” actinodes (Sowerby, 1846) is an abundant and widely distributed species in the sedimentites of the Puerto Madryn Formation (late Miocene), exposed in the northeastern sector of the Patagonian region (Valdés Peninsule, Chubut Province). The exterior sculpture of this species is highly variable and the 2D geometric morphometric method herein performed enabled the recognition of two morphotypes that reflect differential development of shell-sculpture in response to variation of the hydraulic energy conditions in littoral settings. On one hand, a high-plicae morphotype is defined, represented by specimens with prominent coarse-sculptured shells inhabiting firm-sandy or shell-gravel substrates which developed in high energy environments of the lower shoreface recorded in the Transgressive Phase of the sequence. On the other hand, a low-plicae morphotype is recognised as consisting of fine-sculptured specimens associated to sandy substrates of the upper and middle offshore marine settings recorded in the Maximum Highstand Phase and placed immediately above the maximum flooding surface. In these facies, hydraulic energy conditions are restricted to mild tidal currents of much lower energy than those developed in the environments inhabited by specimens presenting coarse-sculptured shells. | - |
